There is a tribe in Nepal that hunts for wild honey with natural psychoactive properties referred to as “mad honey.” This honey is said to have medicinal properties, and as such it is use as a medicine. The honey is like a mild drug. This honey is found out in the jungle of Napal; one month out of the year the biggest bees in the world, giant Himalayan bees gather nectar from poisonous flowers and make honey from it. Wow! One of the translators’ name is Deepak, and has apparently fallen victim to overdosing on this honey. He became unconscious. The honey is said to contain diterpenic alcohol a toxic that causes inebriety.
Because of the ingredient of this honey it is said to possess medicinal, hallucinogenic, and aphrodisiac qualities. Note: The healing properties of this honey are higher than regular honey. To access this honey the natives must climb high cliffs on a rope ladder, and they have no protective equipment. It appears as if these natives have developed somewhat of a mystical rapport with the giant bees. However, they have a technique and engage with what looks like a smoking bush (bundles or green leaves and branches). One must take came to eat this honey with caution! Those who ignore this warning will soon regret it. The nearby tribe is named the Gurungs, and is somewhat isolated from the outside world. In fact, according to the documentary they are a couple days walk from the nearest road. The natives seem like a very happy people who live a simple life; and, very healthy too.
